Sonya L. E. Parry

Sonya is the economic citizenship expert within the firm and has primary responsibility for shepherding economic citizenship applications through the Ministry of Finance, St. Kitts and attending to ancillary matters related to such applications.

Sonya attends to non contentious trust matters on which the firm is engaged and oversees the management of the firm’s intellectual property practice.

Prior to joining Gonsalves Parry in 2007, Sonya was a senior associate at a firm in the British Virgin Islands where the focus of her practice was corporate and commercial law with an emphasis on cross border financing transactions, mutual funds and trusts.

Sonya holds a Bachelor of Laws with Upper Second Class Honours from the University of the West Indies (1997). She also holds a Master of Laws (Merit) with a specialisation in Banking and Finance from the University College of London (2005) where she read the courses ‘Legal Aspects of International Finance’, ‘Corporate Insolvency’, ‘Legal Aspects of Credit and Security’ and ‘International and Comparative Trust Law’. She also holds a Diploma in International Trust Management from the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners/Central Law Training (2007) and is a Trusts and Estates Practitioner holding the designation TEP.

Sonya was admitted to practice law in Barbados and St. Kitts and Nevis in 1999 and subsequently the British Virgin Islands.

Sonya is a director of the Bank of Nevis Ltd., an indigenous bank on the Island of Nevis and the Bank of Nevis International Ltd., an offshore bank which is the subsidiary of the Bank of Nevis Ltd. She is the chairperson of the Audit Committee and a member of the Human Resources and Compensation Committee and the Marketing Committee for both banks.

Sonya is also one of the Governors of the Board of Governors of the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College, St. Kitts and a member of the Academic and Student Affairs standing committee of the Board of Governors. She has served on the executive of the St. Kitts Nevis Chapter of the Red Cross. Sonya is also a Rotarian and a volunteer with the Nevis Cycling Club which in March 2011, successfully hosted on the Island of Nevis the first TriStar sponsored triathlon to be held outside Europe.

Sonya is a Notary Public in the Federation of St. Christopher and Nevis.
